Does encouraging your employees to attend protests open your company up to liability?

We've seen a number of companies take hard stances on the heels of the #GeorgeFloyd protests. Many are putting out statements in support of the peaceful protestors, the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and are encouraging their employees to participate where they see fit.

While the vast majority of protests have been peaceful, there has been a number that turned violent. From an HR perspective, does encouraging your employees to attend protests open your company up to liability?
