Hiring Predictions

A few predictions regarding hiring:

  1. Shipping companies will continue to ramping up hiring, amid concerns over employee health & safety
  2. We’ll see an even greater uptick in hiring for grocery delivery companies, like Instacart, as social distancing guidelines will likely stay in effect past May 3rd
  3. In this time of high unemployment, many jobseekers are going to have “think broadly” when it comes to jobs they’re willing to take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGtAoesbCbY (taken from an article written by Arianne Cohen)

  • It will be interesting to see how more companies in the retail and restaurant industries will be hiring in the post-COVID-19 era.
There were some signals that once quarantine and "shelter-in-place" is over, the chances of increased number of coronavirus cases are higher. Also, colder temperatures help the spread. Does this mean that companies will be cautious of their hiring beginning fall and going into the winter? I think we will see more hiring, hiring freezes, layoffs in waves throughout the end of the year.
